Agriculture is one of the hottest topics amongst the WTO members, which first culminated in the breakdown in Cancun at the sixth Ministerial Conference of the WTO (September 2003). The same happened in Hong Kong in 2005. The lastest development is the negotiations failure of the negotiations during of the Doha Round in Geneva. In virtually no other sector of the world trade regime do different interests and convictions appear to be so irreconcilable as in agriculture. [More...]

The main instrument for discussing new reform proposals is a set of policy papers. The Expert Panel is developing the terms of references and discussing the draft and revised versions from different authors. These policy papers review existing discussions and reform proposals on the matter, interpret new scientific evidence, discuss and analyze policy instruments, identify factors of political influence on current trade negotiations, and outline desirable proposals for reform from a food sovereignty/sustainable agriculture perspective. They provide the basis for the ensuing dialogues and the final report. In the process of the project EcoFair Trade Dialogue the Expert Panel developed a document called Key Messages Paper about the general ideas and opinions of the project. [download here...]
